How to Prepare Your Car for a Mobile Detail

Mobile detailing brings the detailer to you, which is convenient — but a little preparation on your end helps the service go smoothly. Here are simple things you can do before your mobile detailing appointment.

Remove personal items

The single most helpful thing you can do is remove personal items from your car before the detailer arrives.
  • Remove all personal items from seats, floors, and storage
  • Empty the glove box and center console if you want them cleaned
  • Remove car seats, organizers, and aftermarket accessories
  • Take out trash and loose items
  • Check the trunk and remove belongings

Provide a suitable location

Mobile detailers need space to work and access to certain basics.
  • Provide a parking spot with enough room around the vehicle
  • Ensure access to a water source if needed (check with your detailer)
  • Provide access to an electrical outlet if needed
  • Choose a shaded spot if possible — direct sun can affect products
  • Make sure the area is accessible for the detailer's vehicle and equipment

Communicate your priorities

Every detail is a bit different. Let the detailer know what matters most to you.
  • Point out specific stains or problem areas
  • Mention if you want certain products avoided
  • Note if you have preferences about scents or treatments
  • Ask about what's included so you know what to expect
  • Flag any sensitive surfaces or materials

Be realistic about time

Detailing takes time — rushing it compromises the results.
  • Don't schedule the detail right before you need to leave
  • Allow enough time for the detailer to do thorough work
  • Understand that heavily soiled vehicles take longer
  • A quality detail can't be rushed

Secure or remove pets

If you have pets, make sure they're secured or away from the vehicle during the detail. This keeps both the pets and the detailer comfortable and prevents any interference with the work.

Provide access to the vehicle

Make sure the detailer can access your vehicle at the scheduled time. If you won't be present, arrange key access in advance and communicate any instructions about alarms or locks.

Questions, answered.

Not necessarily. As long as the detailer can access your vehicle and the location is suitable (parking, water, electricity if needed), you don't need to be present. Arrange key access in advance if you won't be there.
